Sign "One" for Herb

Final Count!

10,504 A World Record!

Herb Score handed out thousands of baseball to fans over the span of his career, always taking the time to sign a ball for a fan. So why not do the same for him. I went out and purchased a regulation American League baseball, and started to ask people to sign one for Herb, the response has been overwhelming.

Everyone that signs the ball receives a certificate proving they signed it, with the number of their signature. After all we do not want the Lenny Barker fiasco happening again, where everyone claims they "signed one for Herb."

The certificate reads:

Thank you for taking the time to stop and sign a baseball for Herb Score.

Herb Score is retiring this year after being the eyes for million of baseball fans for the past 35 years. It is hard to even remember a Tribe broadcast without Herb Score. Let's not forget that Herb was a great pitcher for the Indians, with a lifetime record of: 55 W, 46 L, 858 IP, 3.36 ERA.

We will all miss Herb, but we all wish him health and happiness in his retirement. LBL thought the perfect gift, from us the fans, would be the same item he gave to thousands of fans; a baseball signed "Best Wishes," from the fans.

The gang on "Long Ball Ln." is trying to get more than 20,000 signatures on this one single ball. It will be presented to Herb Score at the end of the season, from all of us, his fans.

Getting signatures on "Long Ball Ln." outside Gate A at Jacobs Field. The media has dubbed "Long Ball Ln." as the Dawg Pound of Baseball. Meaning the real hardcore fans of baseball hang here before, during and after the game. AGS describes "Long Ball Ln." as where Home runs land and dreams begin. In 1997 the dreams have become reality!

Pat McKinley, vice president of Jacobs Entertainment is the 10,000th!

Which is only fitting, "The Field of Dreams" at the Nautica Entertainment complex invited us to use their facility to get more signatures for Herb. Pictured on the right, is Debra O'Bryan, who helped to bring the "Herb Score Ball" to fruition.

To sign the "Herb Score Ball" during home games stop by the "Long ball Ln." area of JAcobs field 2 hours before the game until 1/2 hour before the game. Then the ball travels to the Nautica Entertainment Complex and "The Field of Dreams" which is the next best thing to being at the game. The place is great, and filled with fans, and of course the voice of Herb Score!

Away games will find us 2 hours before game time at the Nautica Entertainment Complex outside "The Field of Dreams." Then at game time we will move into the "Field of Dreams" and be at the table pictured above.

HERB THANKS THE FANS!
When Herb Score retired, he quietly slipped out of town to Florida. When he returned in December he sent the "Gang on Long Ball Lane," the following items all signed as he had signed so many things in the past. A Tribe hat, a "official" Major League ball, and a note that read:

Dec. 30, 1997
Thank you for your efforts in getting the ball signed. The ball was given to me and will be kept as a happy memory.
Best Wishes
Herb Score

These items do not belong to the "Gang on Long Ball Ln." they belong to the thousands of fans that took the time to stop, and say thank you to Herb Score. We are merely holding on to them. Hopefully, some day the Cleveland Indians will think that over 10,000 fans taking the time to thank one of their own, will be worthy of a little space in their museum. They we can all look at the last two items Herb Score signed as a working member of the Cleveland Indians and the Happy Memories they remind us of.
